Craft Report: Hitting another slump

I had bought several balls of fancy yarn from Target to put together into a shawl and a scarf for myself and a friend.  Never got down to it although it would be nice to curl up with the needles and a throw across my legs and just get things done.

I am trying to resist the urge to buy any yarn until I can get some projects moving because there is just so much to work with right now.  I have been on the look out for scarf ideas on the subways and buses, and there’s one I want to try out tonight.  (I might yet get one of the scarves done!)  The craft store near the house is closing and is offering yarns on discount, but I just don’t have the energy to deal with additional “Projects on Hold” just yet.  So I resisted the urge to buy except for a single ball of pink hued dyed yarn, and there was only one of it left.  (Good for trimming or accent on an all-pink or all-beige scarf..)

My cross stitch project is moving slowly, but it’s moving again.  That one, I want to get off my plate before the new year, so I am trying to do as much as I can, no matter how small the effort is.

And of course there’s the scrapbook which has been moving spread by spread, and perhaps I’ll get something done tonight, given that I’ll be home earlier than normal.  (Hopefully..)

Trying to be a good daughter-in-law

It’s a short work day for me today because Alan and I are taking care of my ailing Mother-in-law.  No one was available to take her to the doctor so I am pitching in..  I’ve asked to leave work at 2PM so I can go fetch her at my Sister-in-law’s house where we will take a cab to the doctor together.  She just had another episode the previous weekend prior to the last one, and we’ve been doing the rounds of the doctors to try and figure out what’s happening to the poor woman.  They haven’t exactly given us an answer yet so Alan is adamant that one of us go with her whenever she has an appointment to be sure we get the message straight from the doctor.

My mother-in-law’s nonchallance about it doesn’t help.  She missed a doctor’s appointment the clinic confirmed with my sister-in-law last week and she feels it is uncalled for for us to bother ourselves with being conscientious about her well-being.

I’m just trying to be a good daughter-in-law.  Alan says she resists it because she never got this kind of attention from an  in-law, considering she even hesitates to ask my brother-in-law to drive for her on occasion.  I feel like it’s not even an overindulgence for her to have me take part of the workday off — not just for Alan’s peace of mind, but because she is family to me.

It’s really not a big deal.  And yes, she is MY mother-in-law, so why not?

A week 'til Christmas

My weekend just passed:

Watched DUBAI at home, KING KONG in the theatres..

Managed to get more of the Christmas shopping done, but didn’t exactly get anything accomplished as far as the Christmas decor was concerned.  We are trying..

Tried to start writing Christmas cards.. no luck.

Tried to write letters for home.. not much luck either.

Got groceries, but didn’t get to grab anything special for the holidays. =(  (There’s always FreshDirect).

Tried to get an outfit for Alan’s Christmas party — no luck either.

Found the spare key I was looking for, but still can’t find my VPN token.  =(

Wish it were another weekend, but the strike’s looming, so I might yet get to stay at home.  Yipee!
