A quiet day at work

I’ve been trying to work on a post here in response to Jen’s request for makeup suggestions, but it’s not quite there yet so it’s still being drafted.

I’ve managed to get a lot of work done on the scrapbook for Mom today, and it’s not going to be quite finished when I give it to her tomorrow but I intend to continue working on it.  Even just 2004 has been one big struggle to pull together but I’m getting there.  My layouts are good and simple and I intend to just add the embellishments before we go home in April.

Meanwhile, I’ve ordered her a tres leche cake from the bakeshop in the neighborhood, and they’ve been excellent with simple pastries like cream puff, their cake display is delectable, so I have much faith in their birthday cakes.  Tres Leche is a cake soaked in three milks literally — cream, condensed milk and fresh milk.  It’s basically a sponge cake soaked in the tres leche which gives the cake a different texture and of course, taste.  I wanted Mom to get to try it, and my mother-in-law, too.

I’m saving myself the trouble of whipping up a feast by instead ordering from one of the Filipino restaurants in Woodside here in New York.  (I’m sure Ces knows the place and Renee’s where I’ll be ordering from.)  Palabok, pinoy barbecue, lumpiang sariwa and maybe some kare-kare.  I’ll just go home early tomorrow to get it all ready in time.

It’ll be a simple yet meaningful birthday for one special woman.
