Minibook Swap – Video Reveal

My swap finally made it to my partner who was rather happy with what I sent, so I’ve edited the video a little by adding an opening billboard and a closing billboard.

I had to improvise using one of my blackberry cams perched atop an inverted plastin bin in front of me.  I used to have a video cam I’d attach to one of my computers for video chats but I’ve long since misplaced it and can’t find it now. =(  I think this is a good first attempt at a video all the same.  I’ll try to shoot the next one with the video option of my camera.  It’s not as easy to shoot when you’re trying to keep out of the frame.  Ha!

I will need more arm clearance next time because I’m due to shoot my Book of Treasures. I’m already a bit delayed but I’m making it worth the wait. Meanwhile, here’s my mini-book reveal:

Officially Saturday

It’s twenty minutes past midnight which makes it officially Saturday on my side of the world.  Meatless Friday done and passed… and I’m exhausted and fighting off sleep.

I had actually successfully napped next to the boy earlier this evening which gave me my second wind.  It didn’t do much, though, as my womanly ailments are getting the better of me this time of the month.

Productive day… I printed off some pictures for my LIFE 4×6 February.  I am still working on completing January but I wanted to photograph the layouts while in a sleeve.  (Target this weekend!)  I even did some print over print experiments but used my photo printer instead.  I must say the result wasn’t surprising but I loved what came out.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it will show the final product as close to actual when I photograph it tomorrow.

It’s been a long week.  We’ve been very busy at work.  Thankfully, the weather hasn’t been as bad.  It was a great improvement from last Friday’s snowstorm.  Can we move on to summer please?

I’m skipping my list of five things to do this weekend in this post but will put it up tomorrow.  My brain isn’t quite in the mood to think about other things that need to be done when I just want to go to la-la land.

Meanwhile, here’s one of two sets of journal tags inspiration that I made for a swap.  I used three of my favorite “Happiness” quotes.

DIY: Handmade card printed on a brown bag and tag embellishments (+Lunch)

The last two days have been very hectic and busy — but today, I just took a step back and let myself recharge.  Here’s another handmade card with words of inspiration I picked up online:

Handmade Card: Brown Bag print: LIVE LIFE

Handmade card: Dedication within

Meanwhile, here’s a sneak peek into what I had for lunch today, courtesy of the Thai food cart on 43rd close to the corner of 6th Avenue (Avenue of the Americas.)  I thought I’d eat something light.. Care for some?

LUNCH: Thai Style Dumplings
LUNCH: Uber spicy Green Papaya Salad

Handmade Card: Off to P

I’ve been working on this card inspired by an “accidental” printing over an already printed photograph.  I printed the photo as is, then accidentally printed a background paper over it lending it a ghost-like blur that I quite liked.. For effect, I then printed a clear black and white version of the same photo and cut out a rectangular portion and put it on top of the bigger printout.  Voila!

No fancy graphics software or tweaking involved.  Just printing twice over.

Step-by-step tutorial already up in my craft blog:

Handmade card: Off to P

Inside, I printed out a quote picked up on GoodReads via Google:

“You’ve got this life and while you’ve got it, you’d better kiss like you only have one moment, try to hold someone’s hand like you will never get another chance to, look into people’s eyes like they’re the last you’ll ever see, watch someone sleeping like there’s no time left, jump if you feel like jumping, run if you feel like running, play music in your head when there is none, and eat cake like it’s the only one left in the world!”

Magazine alphaThere are days when I catch myself just vegetating on the sofa, not doing anything in particular.  Maybe because it’s been a busy day.  I just stayed at home and put things away, trying to get rid of the things I don’t need anymore.

I can’t seem to throw away old magazines because I always see something which I feel I can use somehow, somewhere for a future project or layout.  But the old magazines have to go.  I used to zero in on words, but today I just focused on usable alphabets.  I picked brands, headers and titles in larger alpha, cut them close in a rectangle or square, picked a dark background to paste it on as a frame and then cut again.  What for?  I intend to use these for my art journal entries.

I’ve been watching TV.  Everyone else is asleep in the house.  I’ve put away what needs to be put away in the kitchen, and even if it’s midnight, I’m taking a quick hot shower before turning in for the night.

I get a break tomorrow.  No Religious Ed for the boy, so I get to sleep in.   It’s soooo cold, though.  Even with the heater on full blast, I’m feeling a little chilly in the living room.  The bedroom is comfortably warm, but father and son always want the electric fan on at the highest setting.

Time to hit the sack.

Freebie Alert from The Shabby Princess

One of my favorite digital scrapbooking resources is The Shabby Princess and The Shabby Shoppe.  Not only is The Shabby Princess’ blog oozing with inspiration but free kits (as in practically complete kits) are made available for free from her website subject to their terms and conditions.  (Strictly for personal use only.)  I just happened to stop by today and found this gorgeous new kit sampler: MEMORY LANE.   The full version is available for purchase at their Shop here.

Please note that I am in no way connected with the two sites mentioned above, but I am a fan and a customer.  I have always believed in sharing resources with fellow crafters out there.  There were at least three other samplers and even a free 2013 calendar or two so go and visit while it’s still available.

Bitten by the creative bug

I’ve been busy the last 48 hours just creating.  I wish the next phase could be for the store for a change.  (Need to make money on that investment!)

ATC: Collage backgrounds

I’m making more Artist Trading Card (ATC) collage backgrounds.  Been tearing up colorful layouts in the magazines and creating a linear collage, then painting the whole canvas a single pearlized color. (I’m going nuts about metallic paints and glazes!)  It’s been pretty enjoyable and not much effort.  I had the finished backgrounds sit beneath three reams of paper today at the office to “flatten” them out and “air out” any bubbles underneath.  Now I can continue to work on them.

Water color Paper Tags

I’ve also been painting paper tags with various shades of watercolor and trying to go for more sombre and darker tones.  The top one with the doodle art was a single attempt at drawing and scribbling on a tag.  I ended the day with around 40 tags.  (4 sets of 10 tags in 4 different color schemes.)

My Altered Book has also progressed nicely, with this cut out layout pictured below:
My Altered Book: Cut out Word Art: HAPPY MEMORIES

This is actually a multi-page layout I did the alpha for freehand, then I cut them out yesterday.  I will retouch the fuschia pink page which shows some “scratches” from the scissors I used, but I like the over-all effect pretty much.

I’ve had a pretty productive day work-wise, too, even if I’m tired and sleepy from staying up an extra hour last night to do the collage backgrounds on the ATCs.  It’s also been quiet.  (No negative energy or difficult conversations today.  I know it was prayer that did wonders!)

I’m wrapping this up because I want to get on the bus earlier tonight.  It’s one of those few nights when I can actually do it.  =)

First "ber" Month almost ended

I can’t believe that September is just about to end, with tomorrow being the 24th already. That’s three quarters of the year gone.

I’ve been trying to make room for another 6-compartment shelf I’ll be assembling in a while. So I haven’t really created anything today except for a set of ATC backgrounds I’ll be working on tonight or tomorrow. I have some postcards to pull together for swaps due tomorrow and an envelope to decorate in pink (which should be a breeze!), which reminds me, I sent out two pairs of envelopes yesterday.

Handmade Envelope: Make an Envelope #7  Handmade Envelope: Make an Envelope #7

I created these handmade envelopes with materials that I had in my stock of paper and painted and pasted on them. I hope they are not far too simple for the swap. I tried.

After mass this morning, I just wanted to rest. I’ve tried but I have the shelf to worry about. It’s almost 6pm and I’ve done as much as make room for it and cleaning up around the space where I will put the pair of shelves. I will assemble it tonight when things “quiet” down after dinner. (Which, by the way, I haven’t planned yet.)
Dinner was poached tilapia fillet with olive oil and soy sauce with sliced green onions. I added a side of bacon-wrapped scallops (which were so big I had to halve them.) I had a bola-bola siopao with my scallops, and I’m now winding down, getting ready to attack my shelf project. I did a few backgrounds in my altered book. That project is progressing rather well. Just browsing online for “happiness” quotes pushes up my happy quotient a notch or two higher with each passing day.

Last week was pretty busy for me socially, what with Cousin M (engaged to be married in a few days) now a New Yorker down in Brooklyn, and my new friend Elaine who moved here in May to join her husband. Brings me back memories of 12 years ago when I landed here myself… We had lunch… I brought Cousin M to Woodside and gave her the Phil-Am Store tour. Elaine came down to see me another day and I gave her the bead store tour. (Something I’m seriously considering getting a license for and making money out of.)

This week it’s going to be all work for me. (The boss is back from his week-long business trip.) I did get a lot of cleaning up done the previous week, and there was no stopping the meeting requests that come with or without the boss in the same timezone.

Well, time to get organizing. I am wrapping some hard boxes with pretty paper to use as stock boxes in the shelves I’m assembling, although we bought those foldable cloth bins that fit beautifully into the shelves. I am also such a fan of those see-through shoe boxes for my craft supplies, so I have a couple that would fit nicely into the compartments of the shelves.

I don’t need to buy all the bins I will use. There are some that are better made at home using the color scheme and the materials I prefer. For one, I don’t throw away shoe boxes unless they are beat up. I am using stationery boxes, though, for the bins I will wrap up. Did one last night and I’m more than happy. I might yet get to do another later. (Keeping my fingers crossed.)

Sunday’s getting on rather slowly. I like that. No pressure. The boy’s ready to hit the sack and I’ve cleaned up after an early dinner. I’ll get down to assembling in a few minutes and hopefully get a few more “me” things done before I turn in for bed.

On the way home last Friday, I made a list of 12 things I had hoped I would get to do on a sticky I put on the cover of my altered book. I’ve crossed off around half which isn’t too bad. I’m going to try and do a list of three things I need to get done every day for the rest of the week to focus on my goals. That will hopefully get me doing more instead of “lingering” or floating from project to project.

What I regret I haven’t done is write the letters I had hoped to write today. Well, I have the lunch hour tomorrow.
