Friday Five: Rerun

Last week, I said I would:

1.  Find a suitable box to store my gown in.  Still trying to find one.

2. Redo the rose quartz pieces I unstrung.  Started cleaning the rose quartz of the oxidation.  (Yay!  Some progress here..)

3.  Do my own version of the Proust questionnaire. (Blog post in progress.)  Still trying.

4.  Sort the art supplies I got from National Bookstore.  (Chinese paintbrushes and speedball tips!) Found half of them and looking for the rest.

5.  Reboot “The Thank You Postcard Project”. Next?

As you can see, I didn’t quite get anywhere which is sad.  But hey, the week saw me playing Florence Nightingale for the first part, and then everything just got thrown out of whack (schedule-wise) with backlog at work and all.  So I will not complicate things by creating a new list and will instead stick to this one.  Again, trying to keep it simple.  That is the whole point, after all, of doing the list.  It is supposed to help me focus on 5 tasks that will help me feel that the weekend and the succeeding week turns out to be productive.

I have gotten some new comments on my most read posts which deserve a Feedback on Feedback blogpost, but I want to  be able to sit down on this and write — as in really write — a thoughtful blogpost.  Thank you to those who have written, and again, if email is easier, please e-mail me at pinaynewyorker @ gmail.com .  (I still get e-mails at pinay_newyorker @ yahoo.com but I hardly check that account.)

It’s a gorgeous Friday in Manhattan and I am so tempted to stay later and run around, but I have things I need to take care of before the evening comes upon us on this side of the world. It’s been a very hectic week for me and I am looking to recharge (hopefully) this weekend.  Maybe tick off a thing or two from the list above.  Wish me luck.  If I had my way, I’d be in the park with everyone else, chilling in the shade and just enjoying the afternoon breeze.  But work awaits and I just can’t — not today.  It’s one of those days that leave me pining for a 3 day weekend which I know would never be enough.

Enjoy it, wherever you may be.  Have fun and try to do the things that make you happy.  Just be.

Happy Friday, everyon!
Lovely day in #BryantPark this #Friday noon.  Grab your spot-- bet the tables are all taken.. #HappyFriday, #NYC..#41floorsabove #newyork #midtown #Manhattan #lunchspot #lunchtime

Friday Five: Some progress

I am not too happy that the post preceding this is last week’s Friday 5 post, but I didn’t quite succeed in writing something in between.  Perhaps this coming week will be more prolific given all that is happening.  The good news is, I have made progress with my reboot  (Yay!)

I’m trying to keep focused on 5 doable tasks during the coming week as a way of trying to be more productive.

So how did I do against last week’s list?

1.  Sort my new supplies from Manila.  Beads, crafting supplies, etc. – Happy to report I succeeded here, and even managed to create a few pieces which I have chosen to break up and redo, but I did accomplish this task.

2.  Sort the ribbons from the M&J trim sale. – Boxed and sorted!

3.  Write one letter longhand. – Written, sealed and stamped and on its way to Australia.

4.  Pull all my new magazines together. – Done!

5.  Find a suitable box to store my gown in. – I had hoped to make a trip to oone of my favorite craft stores to get one of those pretty storage boxes, but I ran out of time the previous weekend.  There is this weekend to do that.  So four out of 5?  Quite a bit of progress like I said.

Here’s this week’s Friday five:

1.  Find a suitable box to store my gown in.

2. Redo the rose quartz pieces I unstrung.

3.  Do my own version of the Proust questionnaire. (Blog post in progress.)

4.  Sort the art supplies I got from National Bookstore.  (Chinese paintbrushes and speedball tips!)

5.  Reboot “The Thank You Postcard Project”.

It’s another weekend but with several milestones and holidays.  Today is my little tyke’s 11th birthday which made Mother’s Day a special one for me since.  It’s his last cupcake party (Fifth grade, finally!) and I am excited to celebrate another birthday…

So if only for all that’s happening this weekend alone, I hope to be here writing away just a bit more. Have a fab Friday, everyone!

Friday Five – Three out of Five off the list

I had actually written and finished this Friday, but I was so exhausted by the end of the day that I slept without hitting publish.. so here it goes..

I am proud to report that I am ticking off three of the five on my list last week.

1.  Write on the postcards I meant to send out to friends in Manila.

2.  Work on the hem of at least one pair of pants.

3.  Report on my progress with the THANK YOU POSTCARD PROJECT.

4.  Create a pair or two of earrings from my polymer clay discs.

5.  Create a non-polymer clay piece.

Save for the pants, I might even be able to belatedly take no. 3 off soon, too.

Not bad.

This week’s Friday Five:

1.  Finish the pieces for posting to the shop.  The polymer clay disc pieces and the non-polymer clay ones are just up for finishing, photographing and posting.  Target for the weekend: at least one.

2.  Work on the hem of at least one pair of pants.  Still trying to get this done before the fall is fully present in NYC!

3.  Write a post in the other blog, THANK YOU POSTCARD PROJECT.  I’ve been working on this and there is much to report.  If only I could find the time to sit down and write.

4.  Begin the next multi-page layout I started planning last weekend.  I love doing multi-page layouts which I fill in as I go on with my art journal

5.  Create one of my Marian necklaces.  About time, considering the request from Lou came a while back.

Let’s see how far I get this time…

Friday Five on a Friday…

We want to stick to Friday so I’m writing this while I’m non the road to join a dinner gathering. The boys are discussing TV shows. I’m in my own little world here in the backseat.

I had hoped to post midway through the week but decided the things I wanted to post about were better done over the weekend, so I took a break.

So here goes last week’s Friday’s Five:

1.  Write those letters.  will still try.  The tutorial is in the works for posting eventually at Gotham Chick (my craft blog). Still trying to carve out time to write.

2.  Post the almost finished bracelets and necklaces in the shop.  I had gotten busy finishing a batch for a bridal shower and have been otherwise preoccupied all week but will do this this week .

3.  Finish at least one more background at the end of my altered book.  I was able to do some journaling but didn’t quite get to the backgrounds..

4. Destash more magazine by going through them and getting what I need.   Unbelievable but done!!.

5.  Create more polymer clay beads.  In progress..

You’ll have to pardon the seeming repetitiveness of my list.  There are weeks when more get ticked off and taken out of the list, but that is not always the case.

This coming week, I am hoping to do a take 2 of the above list save for number 4 and finish them by the next Friday Five post.

1.  Write those letters.  will still try.

2.  Post the almost finished bracelets and necklaces in the shop.

3.  Finish at least one more background at the end of my altered book.

4.  Create more polymer clay beads.  In progress..

5.  Complete a bunch of THANK YOU POSTCARDS.

There you go.  No promises except to keep trying.

Friday Five – I’m Back!

Pink hydrangeas

So where did I leave off with my Friday Five two weeks ago?

1. Write a letter. I started two… not quite finished.  Does that count?

2. Create a new ‘Thank You’ card for the Etsy shop. This had to take the backseat to everything that I had to do for work the past week, but it’s on my priority list this weekend.

3. Finish my Art Journal Every Day post on Mother’s Day.. An entry at a time… I finally gave up on finishing the post for another time, but I did start writing in my Art Journal again.

4. Throw away the old, old magazines that I have no use for. This went as far as three magazines, but there’s more to throw out.

5. Concenrate on Necklaces and Earrings this week – production wise. Success!  posted almost 10 products in the shop over the course of the previous week and looking to do more this coming week.  Although around 4 were relisted, the fact that I’m creating again and moving on to populate my Etsy Store bodes well for the shop if I can keep at it.

It’s supposed to be a nice weekend and we had planned to go to the waterpark but the boy said no.  We are, however, planning to do an early screening of Transformers and have already secured the tickets.

This week’s Friday Five:

1. Finish the letters I had started and mail them off..

2. Create a new ‘Thank You’ card for the Etsy shop. For printing next week!

3. Continue art journaling and finish at least an additional layout at the end of the book for future posts.… The latter can be as simple as painting a spread or starting to spruce up an already painted spread to prepare it for journaling.

4. Finish the items already started and keep creating!   I have taken to brainstorming my pieces when I’m away from home and working on them when I finally find the time to sit.  With the three pieces in the works below (and a fourth  – a pair of earrings – I had started last night along with an almost finished necklace), this should be easy to tick off my list for next week.

5.  Start doing mail art again.  I have boxes of freecards or ad cards in the attic that, as a postcard collector I am not wont to just throw away.  The solution is to turn them into something — and maybe send them out.  I’m toying with an idea in my head, but I want to go and get a headstart before I kick it off — literally.  Five pieces — goal for the weekend.  I’m trying to see if this is ambitious or easily doable.  Let’s see.

The birds are chirping outside my window which means it’s actually possibly going to be a nice day — but the skies are grey.  Please don’t rain until I get to work… =)  It’s Friday… that’s a good enough reason to smile.  I hope you all have a great weekend!

Friday Five – A Bit of Progress

A note from Pinay New Yorker: I could’ve sworn I had published this post but when I went to the blog, I didn’t see it there. Instead there was its original draft in my draft folder, but I knew I had completed it. I found it in one of the tabs on the iPad and cut and paste it here. Weird, I know. So take 2…

I would rather count my blessings than dwell on my burdens. #blessed #floral #flowers #movingforward #feelingblessedIt’s starting to get busy because of an upcoming event we have during the third week of June at work, so there is even less time to do any of my “me” stuff. In fact, I’m had taken some work home this weekend just to get a head start on the work this coming week.

But at least my focus remains and there is the sense of moving forward even if it seems like I can’t even keep the “Friday” part consistent. (Writing this on a Sunday.. =(..)

This weekend was all about “taking care of ME” and I made time to make an appointment for the nail salon (which I have a hard time making because it’s just not on top of my list), and I even got some waxing done (face only) which I’m trying to be good with. I’ll say it again, we have to take care of ourselves so we can take care of others well. I have not created a single piece but have been organizing my supplies — and I can’t wait to create some pieces from semi-precious gemstones I bought for myself. (It might sound strange but I usually go economical on pieces for sale — but when it’s a piece for myself, I indulge. My favorite acquisitions are grade A freshwater pearls and labradorites, and I treasure the strands from BFF Ces who had gotten them from trips to the South back home in connection with her work for a real estate/hotel conglomerate in the Philippines..)

What happened to last week’s Friday Five?

1. Write a letter. Uhmmm.. top on my list for the coming week.

2. Go back to reading the Bible. Still struggling to carve out time but today I’m catching up.

3. Finish my Art Journal Every Day post on Mother’s Day.. Did an entry in it but didn’t quite get anywhere near finishing it, so I’m not going to cross this out just yet.

4. Sort the clothes that Angelo has outgrown. Got a good pile going so in a sense, I have begun.

5. Start reading again. Will try again.

Should I call this post My Sunday Five? (Maybe just for this week.)

1. Write a letter. Might even get one done before the night is over.

2. Create a new ‘Thank You’ card for the Etsy shop. Selling on Etsy is a whole production which goes beyond the piece for sale. There’s the packaging and the other notes that go with it beyond the receipt. I remember days before when shipping was stalled because of the fact that I didn’t have it in stock, so I had to create it all before shipping. Not again.

3. Finish my Art Journal Every Day post on Mother’s Day.. An entry at a time… getting there.

4. Throw away the old, old magazines that I have no use for. What can I say, I love paper. It’s hard to for me throw anything away related to paper, but I’ve started with my printed paper so I’m getting there.

5. Concenrate on Necklaces and Earrings this week – production wise. I’ve been posting bracelets right and left but I have a ton of ideas for necklaces that I need to start working on. I already have 3 produced and ready for posting, but I should keep working on it.

It was a good weekend and the weather was fantastic, and we’re hoping it holds for the coming week. We might get lucky yet. Here’s to a good week for everyone!

My Friday Five (on another Saturday)

Last week’s Friday Five went well for the first two but the last three are staying on my list.

1. Create more pieces for the shop and list more items.

I have actually been on a creative streak all week.  It has me all excited because I’m actually being creative and not just pulling things together using the styles I had used through the last couple of years.

New ideas are coming to me which has me looking at the whole process of producing my pieces differently.  More to come in the shop!

Inspiration to create - The previous week has been a buzz of activity as I started experimenting with the materials I already have for pieces to post in the store. All unfinished pieces but soon to be completed. #bracelets #agate #etsy #creativity #insp

2. Start reorganizing my supplies according to component type instead of material.

3. Write a letter.

4. Go back to reading the Bible.

5. Finish my Art Journal Every Day post on Mother’s Day. — which was last week, yes, but I had already started it

Hence this week’s Friday Five is as follows:

1. Write a letter.  Why could something be so simple so difficult to do .. hopefully this weekend.  (A loooooong weekend, at that!)

2. Go back to reading the Bible.  I’m actually hoping to tick this off of next week’s list by carving out regular time every day.

3. Finish my Art Journal Every Day post on Mother’s Day. — It comes in stops and starts and I haven’t touched the art journal for a while now.  Hopefully that will change with a three-day weekend just started.  I really can use the extra day to the weekend to recharge.

4.  Sort the clothes that Angelo has outgrown.  Right about the only person who doesn’t realize how much he’s growing up is the boy, and I hate having to make him change from a shirt he’s already obviously outgrown to somethings that fits better.  I’ve been culling the smaller size shirts/jeans from his wardrobe through the winter, but I think I can do another sweep through.  His hand-me-downs go to a box I send home for an impoverished community where my Mom stays most of the year now.

5.  Start reading again.  Where will I find the time, right?  But that was one of the things I wanted to do this year — read more.  Like every year.  And reading the Bible doesn’t count.  There is just so much literature out there — and even on my book shelf and digital library, unread.

It must seem like I keep listing things down and not actually getting things done.  It feels like the last 8 months of my life has had me just in limbo — floating in space.  I feel the ground under my feet most days now.  I can look at the sunset and see beauty instead of sadness that the day has ended or relief that it has.  I haven’t quite landed on my feet solidly just yet.. but maybe soon.  Hopefully soon.
