Ang Balikbayan Box Part III

We finally got confirmation from the door-to-door courrier that they can pick up our balikbayan boxes Sunday morning. So I proceeded to rearrange the topmost portion of two boxes which had been packed to the brim previously. Some items had “settled” and there were pockets of space I was able to utilize. I didn’t make the mistake of unpacking the whole box like in previous years, because that would defeat the purpose of allowing the items in the box to compress.

I have a third box I need to take care of early tomorrow morning before they get picked up. Then they will be on their way to Manila.

Meanwhile, we’re headed to a barbecue in New Jersey…

The borrowing circuit

My friend, Danielle sent Alan a book for me to read which she bought to read during one of her trips, “All you need to be Impossibly French” by Helena Faith Powell.  It’s a very light and entertaining read — and while it doesn’t give you any life-changing insights, it helps one understand the French, particularly their women.  If you know me, you know I’m a francophile, and this is indeed an interesting read.  As a result, I have a mental note to myself NOT to bring my sneakers next time.  I’m bringing walking shoes.  (Read the book and you’ll know what I’m talking about.)

I found the book entertaining as well because I could actually “picture” the places in Paris that they mentioned — so this is one book I could really relate to.  It brought me back to a favorite place of mine.
